Nearsightedness
A large percentage of people around the globe suffer with some sort of eye issue. From common issues and conditions such as dry eyes or farsightedness to those more serious such as glaucoma or macular degeneration, your eyes can be sensitive to surroundings, age or even other conditions which affect your body.
One common condition which may impact your vision at some point in your life is commonly called nearsightedness. Otherwise known as myopia, it affects a significant portion of the population but can be corrected easily by using glasses, contacts or even surgery.
Those suffering from myopia will have difficulty seeing objects or people which are distant but can see clearly objects and people which are near. To put it simply, if you are nearsighted, you have trouble seeing far away.
What causes nearsightedness is referred to as a refractive error. This means that the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved so that the light which enters the eye does not focus correctly, causing blurred vision. Common among families, nearsightedness if often hereditary though not always and can occur early in life or later in life. Easily diagnosed by a standard eye exam, those who find out they are nearsighted can simply use glasses or contacts to correct their vision or today, can take advantage of a number of surgeries to correct the refractive error including, PRK or Photorefractive keratectomy, a procedure performed by Alpine Eye Care as well.
